Trojan Barbie

by Christine Evans

Play Concept

This concept leans into the timeless nature of Trojan Barbie, blending silhouettes and styles within and between the Trojan women and soldiers. Settings of interest include Bronze Age Greece, World War lI, the Vietnam War, and the current conflict between Israel and Palestine. Paint is used as a visual metaphor for the impact of war on each character. The men's hands and uniforms are stained with it, and the women have marks resembling filth, blood, and handprints. Lotte starts off with clean clothing, but gains a small amount of paint when Mica throws her into the women's camp. Embroidery is used as a symbol of the royal family, national pride, and resistance.
